Перевод с английского языка на основе функционального подхода к грамматике (3)

В этом выпуске мы завершаем знакомство с возможностями перевода текстов с английского языка на русский на основе функционального подхода к грамматике. В прошлых выпусках мы познакомили читателей газеты со способами перевода многофункционального слова one и глаголов to be и to do.. Это лишь фрагменты из спецкурса по обучению переводу текстов, разработанного в лингвистическом клубе “Я-Полиглот”. Сегодня мы знакомим вас со способами перевода герундия (одна из тем в разделе “Неличные формы глагола”).

Gerund (герундий) является неличной формой глагола, которая сочетает в себе свойства глагола и существительного. Исторически герундий произошел от отглагольного существительного (the Verbal Noun), которое существует и в современном английском языке. Герундий не имеет соответствующего грамматического явления в русском языке. Формы герундия совпадают с Participle I. (см. Таблицу 1)

• подлежащего;
• именной части составного именного сказуемого;
• прямого дополнения.

• определения;
• предложного дополнения;
• обстоятельства (времени, образа действия, цели).

1. a) Finishing this work in time depends on many things. - Своевременное окончание этой работы зависит от многих обстоятельств. b) Reading books is useful. - Читать книги полезно. 2. a) My favourite occupation is reading. - Мое любимое занятие - чтение. b) He likes reading novels. - Он любит читать романы. 3. I like reading technical books. - Я люблю читать технические книги.

1. Переведите приведенные ниже предложения. Переводя, придерживайтесь следующего порядка в работе: а) выделите в предложении герундиальную конструкцию; б) определите, каким членом предложения является герундий; в) найдите в приведенных выше алгоритмах нужный вам для перевода; г) переведите предложение.
